Since the beginning of August or so I haven't been able to get a decent night's sleep. Nothing helps . . . alcohol--no. sleep aids (perscription and otc)--negative. And now it's really starting to catch up with me. Insomnia. What fun. I just love lying in my bed, tossing and turning, never finding a comfortable position.
Recently, though, progress has been made. If I go to bed at about 12:30 I can sleep till about 3:00 and then I wake up again. Sometimes I'm able to sleep again, but then I will wake up at 5:00. After that it just doesn't happen. I sit there bored and miserable, but too tired to actually do anything.
I'm a zombie.

You've got to trick your mind into relaxing. Concentrating on white noise works. Or envisioning a place I've been where I was happy and relaxed works for me too. The trick is total concentration until you fall asleep.
That comment was mine, not anonymous.
I'll try. I used to try to just focus on something like my fan -- watching it circle round and round for hours on end -- but usually it would bore me before I fell asleep and I would quit.
It's more in the listening and not the watching. Listen and concentrate on the white noise while keeping your eyes closed...don't think about anything other than the white noise. After awhile your mind will zone out long enough for you to fall asleep.
