The first thing I notice is that I'm in Graceland, but everything is very bland; all of the buildings have clean lines and are white (filing cabinet-style). Also, the bricks used to make them are all vertical. I walk into one of the buildings and take the stairs up to the fifth floor. The hallway seems like it goes on forever. I start looking for my room number but I can't find it. All of the numbers start with 5 but they are followed by hieroglyphics and strange mideastern looking fonts. I choose a door, knock on it, and HKD opens the door. I come in and she's making breakfast. She shows me her hidden stash of spices and points out her large collection of sugar. All of this is hidden under the tile floor. It is explained to me that the government has begun to issue food rashions, but that HKD stole these items from a food supplier she worked for until she got caught and fired. I turn to go back outside, HKD sent me out to get my rashions, when I run into Sunshine who leads me back inside. She starts in on this spew all about anti-government and how they are trying to kill music. From there she proceeds to start crying and shows me the only music she has left -- a small box full of vinyl records. I flip through them and see a lot of "hippy" covers. I try to go into the restroom and Claire screams when I open the door. She closes the curtain to the tub and says, "come on in." She's reciting poetry -- anything from Dunn to Shakespeare -- and writing her favorite lines on the wall with charcoal. She has a few books hidden in her mattress she says. I finish up and then Sunshine comes with me to get my rashions.
We stop at the town square and stare at a squidlike structure that is probably about 50 feet tall that we built together. Apparently, it was a government commissioned job that we had been assigned to build. While we had been building it, another team of "experts" went through and destroyed anything and everything that had any type of creative influence (art, architecture, etc.). She asks me to hoist her up while she grabs a paint pen from out of her bag. When she is finished, one of the black, curling tentacles reads, "Music is the Only Key that can Open our Minds to Understanding."
We continue towards the food center when we hear an explosion. After running towards the smoke, we realize that it was a parliament building that was attacked. People are screaming and crying everywhere so we stop what we are doing and try to help them. Eventually we run into Vanessa who is being operated on by a doctor at the scene. The doctor tells us when he is finished how to care for her, etc. and we bring her back to the apartment. HKD immediately starts making pain relievers for her. Vanessa wanted the bandages to be taken off of her face so she could see, but when we she saw herself in the mirror she fell apart; she was still bleeding and part of face had been blown off, so she wrapped herself back up.
I go to my room and see some papers next to my typewriter. They were articles I had written on our current situation for an underground, anti-establishment newspaper. It felt like I was learning about what happened as I read them, even though I was the author. Graceland became excommunicated 20 years prior to the current date. Apparently there was a female dictator in charge of everything in the southern half of Graceland, while the north was peaceful and prosperous. The dictator was, in effect, reversing time. It was 2008, but she was having her people regress. Currently, we were back in the 1960's, but she wasn't through yet. Her goal was to reach Colonial times by 2020.
I feed a sheet of paper into the machine and start typing.
================
I woke up this morning feeling very strange because of the dream I had, and I decided to write it down. It's very rare for me to remember my dreams, especially ones that are this specific.
The only word I can think of to describe it as is BIZARRE.
